An online database has pointed detectives to a maid, Karleen Alvarez, 26, in the theft of jewelry from a San Antonio home, an arrest warrant affidavit stated.

The affidavit stated that the homeowner called police last month, saying that some items had been taken from a kitchen counter during the cleaning of the home by a maid service.

Detectives contacted the owner of the maid service company who identified all three maids who took part in the cleaning, and told them she suspected Alvarez of the theft because she was new, the affidavit stated.

Detectives said during a primary search of an internet database for pawnshop sales, they did not discover anything of note under Alvarez’s name.

However, they later ran a search using her home address and found out her husband had sold jewelry to a pawnshop the same day that the theft occurred, the affidavit stated.

Police said, in a telephone conversation with detectives, Alvarez promised to meet with them in person and discuss the case, but she never showed up. They arrested her Sunday on a theft charge.
