Man accused of beating dog, severing part of ear
Ruben Morales-Reynaldo, 27, accused of beating dog with metal rod
Ruben Morales-Reynaldo, 27, is accused of taking out his anger on his dog and beating it so severely that he severed part of the animal’s ear, according a report from San Antonio police.
The 3-year-old boxer mix named “Rocky” was taken into custody by Animal Care Services Tuesday night and treated for its injuries.
"When he first came in, he did have a swollen eye on the side of the face that he was hit on,” said Joel Skidmore, an ACS animal cruelty specialist. “One of the blows appeared to almost sever just the tip of his ear."
The dog is now being housed in the clinic at ACS. The police report stated that Rocky suffered lacerations to his right ear, left eye and top of his head.
Skidmore said a decision will be made later about whether the animal can be put up for adoption.
Morales, meanwhile, is being housed in a cell at the Bexar County jail. He is charged with cruelty to non-livestock animals. Records show a hold for illegal entry has also been placed on him.
The police report stated that a neighbor called 911 after 9 p.m. Tuesday, saying that Morales had been beating the dog with a metal rod that appeared to be part of a latch for a driveway fence.
Officers knocked on the door of his West side home and spoke with someone who told them Morales was angry that the dog had knocked over a trash can, the report stated.
Police said they also talked to Morales who told them he beat the dog because it acted aggressively toward his daughter.
A woman who answered the door at the home Thursday morning declined to comment on the situation.
