A man held a woman against her will for hours and fired shots inside a Northeast Side motel room late Thursday night, San Antonio police say.
Mario Cigarroa, 41, was taken into police custody early Friday morning after he held 22-year-old Katrina Wallace at gunpoint inside a room at the Budget Inn And Suites, located in the 2600 block of NE Loop 410 near Perrin Beitel.
Police were called to the hotel around 10 p.m. on Thursday when several guests heard a disturbance and gunshots.
"We could hear him behind the door. As we're walking down the hall, that's when that bullet went through the front door into the hallway," Johnny Jones, who was staying next door, said.
Police arrived and evacuated dozens of guests from surrounding rooms.
Officers said Wallace went into the room on her own and told them she was trying to keep Cigarroa from killing himself.
"At some point, it became an involuntary situation where she was being held in the room at gunpoint. He was making threats," San Antonio police Sgt. Javier Salazar said.
SAPD negotiators were called in and made contact with Cigarroa.
According to a police report, he repeatedly threatened officers and Wallace and said he had a gun in her mouth and would kill her and any officer who came into the room.
Cigarroa finally came out of the room and SWAT officers used a stun gun on him and arrested him.
According to the police report, the threats still didn't stop, and while in a patrol car, Cigarroa told officers, "I should have just ended and took two or three of you with me."
They said he then told officers, "I only came out because of her. If it wasn't for her, I would be dead and so would some of you cops."
