Man accused of scheming to get prescriptions
Affidavit: Frederick Tealer got more than 200 Hydrocodone pills
Man accused of 'doctor shopping' to get drugs
A local man remained in the Bexar County Jail Friday after being arrested in a case of what investigators call “doctor shopping.”
The official charge against Frederick Tealer, 34, is obtaining prescription drugs by fraudulent means. He was arrested Thursday.
An arrest affidavit stated the Texas Department of Public Safety began investigating the case, based on information it received from the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the affidavit, DPS investigators found out Tealer had been “doctor shopping” and obtained six different prescriptions for Hydrocodone from various doctors in San Antonio and Gonzales, Texas, during July of last year. The prescriptions added up to over 200 pills.
Doctor shopping involves people visiting several doctors for the purpose of obtaining prescriptions, for drugs such as Hydrocodone, from each of them.
Hydrocodone is considered a controlled substance and dosages for patients are usually limited.
In many “doctor shopping” cases, the physicians are not aware of what is happening.
According to the affidavit, it does not appear any of Tealer’s doctors knew about the situation or will face any charges.
