SAN ANTONIO -

Police said they’ve found out the truth behind an East Side shooting, and found the man who they believe is responsible.

They arrested Frankie Mendoza, 29, Monday on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Mendoza is accused of shooting his childhood friend, Richard Juarez, 28, in the leg outside a home in the 100 block of E. High Avenue on May 19.

According to an arrest affidavit, Juarez told officers, at first, that he had been wounded in a drive by shooting.

The affidavit stated that he later changed his story after realizing how badly injured he was and how much pain the shooting had caused him.

In the affidavit, police said Juarez told them Mendoza shot him because he broke up a fight between two women. Juarez said Mendoza was angry because he intervened, the affidavit stated.
