Man accused of staging crimes, blaming wife’s ex-boyfriend
German Rodriguez, 31, facing numerous charges, including false reports
German Rodriguez, 31, is accused of launching a complicated campaign against his wife’s ex-boyfriend that included staging crimes and blaming him for them.
Bexar County sheriff’s detectives arrested Rodriguez Tuesday in connection with the investigation which began last summer.
According to an arrest affidavit, Rodriguez and his wife filed numerous reports during a five or six week period last July and August for crimes that included shots fired into their home, vandalism to their vehicles and about 900 threatening text messages sent to the wife’s phone.
All of the crimes were believed to have been committed by the woman’s ex-boyfriend, the affidavit stated.
However, detectives said they began to notice some inconsistencies in the stories.
On one occasion, Rodriguez reported shots had been fired into his home. But a detective who was outside watching the home at the time knew that was not the case, the affidavit stated.
Detectives said some of the alleged incidents also occurred after the ex-boyfriend had been placed on house arrest and was wearing an ankle monitor.
Investigators said they later gave Rodriguez a polygraph test and it showed he was lying, the affidavit stated.
Rodriguez faces charges that include filing a false report, deadly conduct and tampering with evidence.
