Man accused of stealing friend's car, using it for burglary
Danthony Johnson, 20 accused of stealing friend’s car to commit burglary
Danthony Johnson, 20, is facing charges in connection with a car theft and home burglary that happened nine months ago.
According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Bexar County detectives received a tip from another man who they arrested for the same crimes, telling them that Johnson is the person who ran away from them.
The affidavit stated that a Northeast Side woman told investigators that Johnson stopped by her home one day in May and stole her roommate’s car keys when she left the room.
Detectives believe that same car was caught on surveillance video a short time later at a home that was burglarized.
The affidavit stated that the video also captured five men leaving the home with items from it, including a laptop computer, TV and other electronics.
Deputies later spotted a car at a nearby gas station that matched the description of the one involved in the burglary, and arrested four men, the affidavit stated.
A fifth man ran away, but detectives said one of those arrested identified him as Johnson, the affidavit stated.
Investigators said they also obtained text messages that Johnson sent to the car owner around the time of the burglary, saying that he had her vehicle, the affidavit stated.
Johnson was arrested Wednesday on charges of burglary and theft of a vehicle.
