Man drowns at Blossom Athletic Center
A 64-year-old man drowned Friday at a Blossom Athletic Center swimming pool.
There was no immediate word on the circumstances surrounding the drowning.
However, Annetta Scofield, Earl Scofield's wife, told KSAT that her husband was a strong swimmer and they would swim at the Bill Walker pool 2 to 3 times a week.
Annetta Scofield said her husband was always one to make people laugh and that he will be missed.
"Earl Scofield was a wonderful, fun-loving guy," said Annetta Scofield. "He was always quick with a joke or making a funny story."
Annett told KSAT that she and her husband were swimming on Friday when she noticed him at the bottom of the pool.
She called for help and three lifeguards pulled him out and administered CPR, but Earl did not survive.
"That would be good for people to know that knew him, that staying active was important so, he was acitive to the very end," she said. And we never know when that's going to be. So, it was unexpected."
Earl Scofield was an educator for more than 30 years. He taught math, literature and worked at a number of schools in San Antonio including Pat Neff Middle School, Marshall High School, and McCollough High School.
Aside from staying active, Annetta said her husband loved to teach and to give back to the community.
"Hopefully, people will take time to think about what he has done in the community," said Annetta Scoffield. "And maybe take that as an example that we all need to be part of the community and give back and help other people."
