A suspect in a South Side burglary was arrested thanks, in part, to a man who played the part of a detective.
An arrest affidavit stated that the man obtained surveillance video that helped police identify Rudy Guerrero, 23, as the suspect in a July 8 break-in.
The man is a relative of the victim who told police he heard about the burglary from a neighbor.
He said, based on a witness’s description—that the burglar has tattoos on his outer legs-- he knew it had to be Guerrero, the affidavit stated.
To be sure, though, the man obtained surveillance video from a nearby convenience store, the affidavit stated.
Police reviewed the video and believe it is Guerrero who was caught on camera, the affidavit stated. Guerrero was arrested Wednesday on a burglary charge.
