Man leads police on wild chase along major highways, through North Side bar
Suspect could face evading arrest, drunken driving charges
A man is in custody who allegedly led San Antonio police on a wild car chase along two major highways, then a foot chase that led right through a North Side bar.
Police said the ordeal began with what should have been a traffic stop on Highway 281 near Basse Road around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Instead of pulling over, the driver continued down the highway, exiting at Hildebrand Road, then turned around a headed back north on Highway 281, police said.
The car chase continued on to Loop 410 east before the driver exited at Broadway and attempted to flee on foot, police said.
During the foot chase, police said the man ran through a bar—entering through the back door and leaving through the front door.
Bar patrons who saw what was happening pointed officers in the right direction, police said.
Officers caught up with the suspect after he ran into an apartment complex and fell about five feet down a stairwell.
Police arrested the man on a charge of evading arrest. However, officers said it’s possible he also may be charged with DWI. Police said he has two prior arrests for drunken driving.
