SAN ANTONIO -

A man running on top of a train fell to his death as he attempted to leap from car to car to avoid police.

Officers say that man jumped onto a Union Pacific train around 2 a.m. Saturday on the tracks in the 900 block of Frio City Road.

The conductor says he honked the horn and signaled for the man to move out of the way, but he decided to jump on the moving train instead.

The crew stopped the train and called police.

They saw the man and were attempting to get him off the top of the train when he started to run.

Police say the man tried to leap from car to car, but missed and fell from the top of the train to the ground below.

EMS took him to SAMMC with critical internal injuries, but he died at the hospital a few hours later.

The medical examiner has not yet released the man's name.

Police did not say what caused the man to flee in the first place.
