Man sentenced in dog beating
Gerald Davison Rodriguez gets 2 years in jail
A San Antonio man has been sentenced to two years in jail after he severely beat his wife's dog.
Gerald Davison Rodriguez, 31, pleaded no contest to charges of animal cruelty.
His defense lawayers said he had a severe case of "attention deficit hyperactive disorder" last January, when he shook Chester the Schnauzer and slammed the dog against a wall.
Rodriguez then picked up the already injured dog and slammed it into a bathtub, investigators said.
Chester was left paralyzed for days but amazingly, the dog survived.
On Friday, Rodriguez was handed down a two-year sentence for animal cruelty.
Chester has permanent spinal cord damage and still has seizures.
The dog is back at home with Rodriguez's now-ex-wife.
