SAN ANTONIO -

The Spurs are going to be short one of their best players for a couple weeks longer than they originally thought.

Star shooting guard Manu GinĂ³bili is going to have surgery on his left hand after breaking his fifth metacarpal below his pinkie.

Recovery time for the surgery is expected to take six to eight weeks, coach Gregg Popovich announced.

Ginobili tweeted that plates and screws will be put into his hand to repair the bone.

A two-time All-Star, Ginobili was injured when he fouled the Minnesota Timberwolves' Anthony Tolliver as he rose to shoot the ball late in the second quarter Monday night.

Ginobili immediately grabbed his shooting hand and crouched in pain near the scorer's table as the team trainer came to his side.
