SAN ANTONIO -

Manuel Martinez, 20, is facing charges after allegedly trying to pay off a witness in the murder case against his younger brother, Ruben Martinez, 19.

An arrest warrant affidavit stated that the witness contacted San Antonio police on Nov. 7, telling them that Manuel Martinez had offered him money not to testify against Martinez’s brother.

Ruben Martinez is still awaiting trial in the December 2011 murder of Francisco Rodriguez, Jr., 23, the affidavit stated.

Police at the time said the shooting, on Interstate 37 near Fair Avenue, was the result of road rage.

Police declined to release the name of the witness, saying that both brothers are members of a local gang and could pose a threat to him.

Manuel Martinez was arrested Friday on a charge of tampering with a witness.
