SAN ANTONIO -

A memorial service will be held Wednesday morning for a San Antonio police officer who died nearly three weeks after being hurt in a traffic accident while on duty.

A memorial for Officer Edrees Mukhtar will be held at 9 a.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary at 1001 McCollough Ave.

Mukhtar died Saturday from injuries he suffered in a traffic crash Dec. 10.

San Antonio Police Department officials said Mukhtar was responding to a non-emergency call when he hit a wet patch and lost control and hit an oncoming truck in the opposite lane.

The accident report cited a failure to control speed and failure to drive in a single lane as factors in the wreck.

Mukhtar was with the department for about a year and a half.
