Military wife makes special thank you
Extreme Makeover star thanks military spouses
The Friday before Mother's Day marks Military Spouse Appreciation Day and one well-known military spouse in the San Antonio area is speaking out.
Kathreyn Harris, wife of Staff Sgt. Shilo Harris, said she is glad there's a day to say thank you to all those military wives and husbands who continue to make sacrifices for all the armed forces.
"A lot of people don't see the sacrifices that we as spouses make," said Harris.
People in the San Antonio area may remember Katherine from her ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. The episode hasn't aired yet, but when it was filmed in Floresville back in January, the entire community rallied around the Harris family.
But before Kathreyn Harris was in the national spotlight for being a recipient of a house on Extreme Makeover, she was a military wife.
Her husband, Shilo, was severely injured in Iraq back in 2007, after the truck he was in struck an IED and since that time, she said she has had to take on the role as wife, mother and nurse.
"Myself, and husbands and wives, boyfriends and girlfriend, and even parents sometimes have stepped in roles that wouldn't normally be your in comfort zone, but it's something you want to do just so we can bring our service members back."
Kathreyn Harris is now an advocate for wounded spouses and their families.
Her husband, Shilo, said he's not only proud of his wife, but says that her support means everything.
"We have to have that piece of mind down the line that there's family back home that have our best interests at heart," said Shilo Harris. "So we can focus on what we have to do right there, right then to try to protect our buddies on our left and right and make sure we all come home."
