Missing child found after 5-hour search

A 4-year-old boy who was missing for several hours on the far Northeast Side was found safe and sound late Saturday night.

Police said the mother was dropping off the boy and another child at their grandmother's apartment when the boy slipped out of her sight and disappeared.

Police on foot, a K-9 unit and a helicopter looked for the boy and ultimately found him in an unlocked vehicle similar to his mother's in the apartment complex's parking lot.
