Mother of shooting victim: 'Somebody has to know something'
SAPD: Eric Mendoza shot to death in possible road rage incident
Although Eric Mendoza was killed nearly two years ago, his mother hopes a $20,000 reward will help bring justice.
Police believe Mendoza was shot to death during a possible road rage incident in October 2010, near the Park Village subdivision.
"These people should not be out there walking the streets, possibly doing this to another family," said Mendoza's mother, Patty Hernandez.
Hernandez said her son was heading to meet some friends after his late night shift at Frito Lay at around 12:45 a.m. on Oct. 21, 2010.
Police believe the incident started near Interstate 35 and Rittiman Road and ended a short time later at the Park Village subdivision nearby.
Mendoza was found slumped over the steering wheel of his truck on the 5000 block of Village Path.
The person responsible was never found.
Now Hernandez has made it her mission to help find her son's killer.
She said her son's friends mentioned seeing a black Dodge Stratus four-door sedan where they had an altercation.
"Somebody has to know something," she said. "It's just a matter of coming out."
Hernandez sometimes hands out flyers in area neighborhoods and recently spent her own money to pay for a billboard advertising a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
She said most of the reward money comes from donations, while Crime Stoppers is paying a $5,000 portion.
"I'm not going to stop until they get found and that justice is done," she said. "I don't think there's closure but at least I can have a little bit of peace."
Anyone with information about the incident should call Crime Stoppers at 224-STOP.
