National Night Out, a national program designed to promote neighborhood solidarity, will kick off in the San Antonio area Tuesday night.
Events are planned for across the Alamo city and typically feature BBQ, fun and games for the kids, and a chance to meet police officers.
Neighborhood organizers said knowing your neighbors is extremely important in combating crime.
“Just being able to identify suspicious activity in your neighborhood, being able to notice when something doesn’t seem right, gives you a leg up on criminals,” said Lisa Pfeiffer, president of the East Village Neighborhood Association.
“We try very hard to meet everyone in our area, even though they can be a bit scattered,” said Joan Korte, president of the Downtown Residents Association.
