New Braunfels man killed in fiery crash
Victim identified as Larry K. Vodron
A New Braunfels man died early Sunday morning after he crashed into a transformer box and his SUV bursts into flames.
New Braunfels police said 49-year-old Larry K. Vodron was traveling northbound at 3:43 a.m. in the 200 block of S. Seguin Avenue when he crossed the southbound lanes and struck a utility pole and then the electrical box.
Witnesses said flames immediately engulfed the SUV while the driver was still inside.
New Braunfels Parks Department personnel who were headed to work were able to get Vodron out of the SUV and began lifesaving measures, an NBPD press release stated.
Vodron was transported to Christus New Braunfels Hospital and died a short time later.
Police are investigating what caused Vodron to drive across the southbound lanes.
Vodron was the only person inside the Ford Explorer. No other vehicles were involved.
