SAN ANTONIO -

“Remember the …” is the new ad campaign being launched in May by the San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau to promote “hidden jewels” known most to locals, but seldom experienced or seen by out of town visitors.

“What this is going to do is give us the opportunity to share those stories and memories of San Antonio that makes it so special,” said Casandra Matej, CVB executive director.

Matej said CVB is taking its popular “Deep in the Heart” campaign to the next level by asking locals to submit photos to the CVB page on Facebook.

By doing so, Matej said the new national campaign is meant “to embrace the authenticity of people’s memories, what people want to share about their own city.”

She said those who take part will be eligible for a social media sweepstakes where winners will be selected at random for prizes such as vacation packages and Spurs tickets.

Matej said the first contest will run through May 7, with at least a dozen additional other sweepstakes planned for the remainder of the year that will focus on tourism categories such as cuisine, arts and culture and family activities.

Many tourists on the River Walk said they are eager to find other places to see that are off the beaten path.

“We’ve been on the mission tour but other than that, I don’t know where else to go,” said a visitor from Houston.

A group of tourists from Chicago and Nevada said they suggest “old things that would show old San Antonio” or “music, music, we all love music.”

One of the visitors said, “We like it here but we’ve kind of been here and done the same things every time that we’ve come.”
