SAN ANTONIO -

A local elementary school started building a brand-new outdoor classroom on Thursday, with help from the Home Depot.

Jackson-Keller Elementary accepted $4,000 worth of water-conserving xeriscaping materials from Home Depot. The items will be used for the school's new courtyard garden.

Staff at the Home Depot at 281 and Bitters also pitched in Thursday and helped to do some of the landscaping themselves.

"These guys just gladly give their time, they come out here, they help the kids, help the school, the community around us, that's just something they would love to do," said Carlos Rodriguez, staff member of the Home Depot at 281 and Bitters.

School officials say the newly-landscaped area will be used for an outdoor classroom, as well as a community center for the school's semester movie nights.
