A new section of the Mission Reach Project opens on Saturday, which will let you enjoy the San Antonio River in a whole new way.
Bexar County Commissioners were all on hand Tuesday to announce the new opening, which includes a two-mile section that stretches from Padre Park to Mission San Juan.
“This is indeed a day to celebrate. It's a day to come out here and to recreate and visit with our friends,” said Bexar County Commissioner Tommy Adkisson. “Get reacquainted with people we never see when we're cooped up inside of our air-conditioned homes.”
The newly opened section includes 6.6 miles of trails for walking, biking, and hiking, as well as 2.5 miles of trails for kayaking or canoeing.
Commissioners say with Easter on the way, the project was completed at the perfect time.
“Bring a basket of eggs, bring your kids down here, hide the eggs, let the kids have a great time,” said Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff.
The entire Mission Reach project is scheduled for completion this summer, with a grand opening celebration also being planned to commemorate the occasion.
