SAN ANTONIO -

The San Antonio Police Department asked the public’s for help Thursday in solving a horrific beating that nearly killed a security guard.

Grainy black-and-white video showed a pickup truck pulling up to Taqueria Mexico around 1 a.m. last Thursday morning.

The truck runs into the security guard, identified by police as 68-year-old Jose Fernandez, knocking him to the ground.

A man then exits the truck and beats Fernandez with what looked to be a baseball bat.

Police said Fernandez suffered broken teeth, bones, and multiple severe lacerations.

If captured, the two men in the truck would face aggravated assault charges.

Their motive for the crime is not yet known, considering they took nothing from the scene, police said.
