The Northside Independent School District announced all elementary schools will soon have camera surveillance systems.
The $20 million project was approved by voters in the 2010 bond election.
Thousands of digital surveillance cameras and access controls will be installed across the district's 75 elementary schools.
The project also upgrades surveillance systems already in place at 36 NISD high schools and middle schools.
NISD officials said the project will begin immediately and take about 18 months to complete.
