SAN ANTONIO -

A man safely escaped a fire that appeared to have started in an empty parking lot and spread to his home and a nearby storage unit in a neighborhood northeast of downtown early Friday morning.
San Antonio firefighters were called to the scene at the corner of North Alamo and East Grayson streets at 2 a.m. and found the fire in full bloom.
According to workers at a nearby bakery, flames were shooting about 40 to 50 feet in the air at one point.
Firefighters said it appears the fire began in an empty lot and then spread to a storage shed and the home.
Firefighters said a man who lives in the home had already made it out safely by the time they arrived.
The lot appears to be an area where construction materials, including bags of tile grout, were stored. Trash, including empty pizza boxes, also littered the ground.
Firefighters called in the Arson Squad to look for a cause of the fire.
As of 6:30 a.m., they had not released any information regarding how it started.
