Pedestrian killed on Culebra Road identified
Heidi Lowry, 38, hit by pickup, SUV as she crossed street
Heidi Lowry, 38, is the woman who was hit by two vehicles and killed while crossing Culebra Road near Potranco Road early Tuesday morning, according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s office.
San Antonio police said Lowry was walking across Culebra Road at Potranco when she was hit, first, by an eastbound pickup truck, driven by Donald Schultz, 33.
The impact sent Lowry into the westbound lane, and she landed in front of an SUV driven by Sandi Consevage, 44, a police report stated.
Police said the only witnesses to the 5:45 a.m. crash were the two drivers involved. One of them could be seen wearing military fatigues and had what appeared to be a U. S. Air Force sticker on the back window of his truck.
"Both cars stopped. It appears that all three people involved were on their way to work, so it does not appear alcohol a factor," said Sgt. Chris Spratley, with SAPD.
“From what witnesses say right now, it does appear that she was in the crosswalk when she was hit,” Spratley said.
A police report stated that it appears that the drivers had the green light.
Police noted that Lowry was dressed in medical scrubs. Although they believe she was on her way to work, it was not immediately clear why Lowry was walking across that busy and dark intersection intersection.
The corner where she was headed has no sidewalk. However, people who live nearby said there is a bus stop farther down that street.
"There is a light at the intersection right there, Culebra and Potranco,” Spratley said. “This corner is a little bit darker than the other corner, so light could have been a factor in this case."
Neither driver was cited at the scene.
