A small plane fell from the air just after takeoff and crashed into a backyard near Twin Oaks Airport, off Heimer Road in North San Antonio.

The plane, a 1946 fixed-wing, single-engine Global Swift, crashed through a fence of a nearby house and landed in the backyard of the home, located in the 13000 block of Possum Way, around mid-morning on Monday.

The homeowner's son, 22-year-old Raymond Alonso, said he awoke Monday morning to what sounded like thunder.

"The house kind of shakes a little. That's what it sounded like: a boom," he said. "The last thing you expect is to see a plane in your yard."

When Alonso went outside, he found two men, the plane and a lot of wreckage.

Neither the pilot nor the passenger was hurt, but crews did have to clean up a fuel leak.

"I see the two guys standing outside of the plane," Alonso said. "They were just, like, wide-eyed. They said were fine."

Alonso said he was told by FAA officials that a mechanical problem caused the crash.
