Melissa Romero, 21, was stabbed by her estranged husband inside her South side apartment early Friday morning as her two young children looked on, according to San Antonio police detectives.
Officers found out about the stabbing after Romero showed up at a hospital around 5 a.m. Friday.
Police at the scene said she suffered stab wounds to her arms and neck, and is expected to recover.
According to a police report, investigators learned Romero’s estranged husband had forced his way into her apartment and attacked her during an argument concerning custody of their children.
A neighbor who spoke only Spanish said she heard screams at some time after midnight, but was unable to call police because she did not have a phone.
Police said the husband, whose name was not released immediately, later took Romero and the children to a home in the 200 block of Barrera Street.
Romero told police the man held her there for about an hour, making her watch videos of him having sexual relations with other women, the report said.
She told officers she eventually convinced the man to allow another woman in the home to take her to a hospital, police said.
Once officers learned of how she was injured, they responded to the Barrera Street home and attempted to talk to the man, police said.
The husband, however, refused to come out of the home and was holding the children, ages 6 and 4, inside with him, police said.
Officers eventually kicked in the door and arrested the man.
Police at the scene said the six year old told them she and her sibling had witnessed the stabbing.
