SAN ANTONIO -

The San Antonio Police Department is asking for the public's assistance in helping to identify a man who allegedly robbed a Valero gas station in January.

According to police, the man robbed the Valero gas station located at 1303 Callaghan Road on Jan. 24.

Police said the man entered the store and approached the gas station clerk. The man told the clerk to open the cash register and give him all of the money inside.

The clerk told police he saw the man had his hand hidden under his shirt and wasn't sure if he had a weapon.

According to police, the clerk said an unknown female customer came out of the restroom. The clerk said the woman distracted the man, in which the clerk was then able to press the panic button.

Officials said the clerk then placed the money from the register onto the front counter. As the female customer exited the store and went to her vehicle at the gas pumps, the clerk told police the man left the store without taking any of money from the counter.

The man got into an older model black 4-door Chevy vehicle with unknown license plates, and fled the store northbound on Callaghan Road. Officers in the area said they were unable to locate the man's vehicle.

Crime Stoppers said they will pay up to $5000 for information that helps lead to the arrest of the person responsible for this robbery. You are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 224-STOP.
