Police: Man threatened to set girlfriend on fire

SAN ANTONIO -

A 22-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after police said he sprayed his girlfriend with lighter fluid and then threatened to set her on fire.

Benjamin Bonilla was apprehended Wednesday by police following an incident at the Regal Park Apartments in the 3200 block of Thousand Oaks Drive. He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

A 21-year-old woman told police that she and Bonilla got into an argument Tuesday afternoon when Bonilla sprayed her with lighter fluid, police said. Bonilla then took out a lighter and threatened to light her and her apartment on fire, police said.

The woman then went to another room and called police. A 20-month-old child was also inside the apartment, but neither of them were hurt.

The woman told police that Bonilla was addicted to pain medication since getting injured five years ago. Bonilla had recently had the dosage of the medication lowered, the woman told police.
