Police: Woman dies in wrong way crash
Police say a woman who picked up a friend was hit and killed by a wrong-way driver east of downtown early Saturday morning. The medical examiner said Christina Flores, 43, died at the scene.
According to police, Flores had gone out to pick up another person who was intoxicated and could not drive.
Police received the call at around 4:15 a.m. for a driver heading north in the southbound lanes of Interstate 37.
Police said Jeffrey Thiesen, 28, hit the Flores' car head-on, trapping her inside. Fire crews worked to free her but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Flores' passenger, who she had gone to pick up, was with her when the wrong way driver slammed into her car, but suffered only minor injuries.
Thiesen was also injured and taken to University Hospital where he was booked by proxy. He has been charged with intoxication manslaughter. Bond was set at $100,000.
