Police chase in Kerrville ends in fatal crash

A man identified as Rodney Walter Murkin died early Thursday morning after Kerrville police say he crashed his vehicle while trying to get away from officers answering a disturbance call.

Kerrville police were called to the 1100 block of Broadway around 1 a.m. for the disturbance, but say Murkin was not at the scene.

A Kerrville patrol officer then spotted Murkin a few blocks away and tried to pull him over.

Kerrville police say Murkin sped away and lost control of his vehicle on Guadalupe Street, hit a tree, an electrical pole and a gas main.

Murkin was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation. Kerrville police have not said if alcohol played a factor.
