BASTROP, Texas -

A Bastrop volunteer firefighter whose home was destroyed in the September wildfires will be featured on an upcoming episode of the reality TV show Extreme Makeover – Home Edition.

Mizzy Zdroj and her family were featured in an episode of the show taped in Bastrop Wednesday, which features not only the rebuilding of Zdroj’s home, but also the remodeling of her volunteer fire station.

“She was out here battling the Bastrop fire for over 30 days. and we felt like she was a great representative of a lot of the hardship that occurred to so many families in this area,” said George Verschorr, the show’s executive producer.

Verschorr said Zdroj’s new home is state of the art in energy efficiency, and features an art studio. The home and the remodeled fire house were unveiled during the show’s taping on Wednesday.

The wildfires that ravaged Bastrop in September destroyed more than 1500 homes, and burned close to 34,000 acres.
