SAN ANTONIO -

A new study shows San Antonio's Stinson and International Airports contribute nearly $5.1 billion to the region's economy.

Nearly 99,000 jobs are created by activity at SAT and SSF, according to the GRA, Inc.-produced report. All of those jobs create an earnings impact of $22.4 million. The airports are responsible for around $226 million in state and local taxes, the report said.

Using Federal Aviation Administration data, the report predicts by 2021, the total economic impact will surpass 106,000 jobs with nearly $1.7 billion in wages earned.

In addition, by 2021, the airports will contribute more than $5.5 billion to the region's economy, the report said.

“Our airports are central to the vitality of San Antonio’s economy,” said Frank Miller, City of San Antonio Aviation Director. “In addition to jobs, the airports are generators for commerce and trade. Last year, more than 270 million pounds of freight cargo and more than 8 million passengers moved through our airports, supporting additional economic activity in the region.”
