SAN ANTONIO -

It was too big and bright to be a bird. None of our viewers said it looked like a plane. Nor did they say it looked anything like Superman.

"My brother thought it was a very long falling star but he said it turned green once it hit the earths atmosphere," said Sierra Alcoser on KSAT-12's Facebook page.

"It was huge it was red yellow at first falling straight down and fast then turn bright green and u could see sparks and flame behind it...we were so amazed on the speed and size it was real near by adkins texas..." [sic] said Ruby Pinones.

Tracy Moore directed us to the Lunar Meteorite Hunters blog. It reports sightings of a meteor from Texas and Oklahoma around 8 p.m. Wednesday. Within an hour, the site had reports of a meteor from locations across the United States.

You can go to the blog to see the picture and a brief video of a meteor taken around the time of the local reports. Because of the increased interest, it may take a while for that site to load on your web browser.
