El Tropiko Mexican Grill, Los Cocos fail inspection

SAN ANTONIO -

A West Side Mexican restaurant was recently shut down by the health department after failing its inspection.

El Tropiko Mexican Grill #2 on Culebra was shut down by Metro Health on June 28.

They received a failing score of 37 demerits and had their license suspended due to inadequate refrigeration of potentially hazardous foods. Other violations included:

The health department tells KSAT's Behind the Kitchen Door they went back the next day and cleared the restaurant to open back up.

The walk-in cooler was fixed and pest control treated the restaurant. The staff was asked to clean up the dead bugs.

Los Cocos on Bandera Road failed their inspection with 35 demerits. They were hit with 10 demerits alone for food at unsafe temperatures. Other violations included:

The health report shows the soap was re-stocked before the inspection was over. Behind the Kitchen Door left messages for the owners of both restaurants, but had not heard back from anyone yet as Thursday night.
