SAN ANTONIO -

Last minute tax payers hustled their way into their local post office well ahead of the deadline from years past.

This year, there was no midnight collection.

”There has been a significant decline over the past few years due to more people filing their taxes electronically,” said San Antonio Postmaster, Robert Carr.

However, the no midnight collection didn’t mean empty post offices. The main post office on Perrin Beitel Road kept busy up until the 8 p.m. deadline with last minute filers.

One woman said she hates being part of the mad dash to get her tax returns in on time.

“I feel that I wish I took care of this back in January to be honest…it’s very crowded out here and crowded in there,” said Liz Pianta.

Automated Postal Centers are available 24 hours daily and only accept debit and credit cards.

Customers with questions may also call the Postal Service’s free, 24-hour toll-free number, 1-800-ASK-USPS (1-800-275-8777).
