The San Antonio Food Bank received a big donation on Tuesday that will help their affiliate organizations better keep and distribute food.
1st Source Servall, a national appliance parts distributer with operations here in San Antonio, donated 27 new Frigidaire freezers.
The Food Bank will distribute them to 21 partner organizations that provide food to thousands of San Antonio residents in need.
"People don't know that about 50 percent of the food we distribute is perishable. So as we receive that perishable food whether it's refrigerated or frozen, being able to transport and deliver that food safely is really important,” said Eric Cooper, President and CEO of the San Antonio Food Bank.
The freezers, which can hold about 500 pounds of food each, will help the organizations store more food on site to better provide for the people they serve.
The organizations receiving the freezers were chosen based on their needs for food storage and the number of people they serve.
