Many of the visitors on the San Antonio River Walk said they disagree with Houston Mayor Annise Parker, who said it was “a concrete ditch.”
“There’s no nice way to put it,” Parker reportedly said Thursday, comparing the River Walk to Houston’s nationally recognized Buffalo Bayou Park.
However, even a Houston-area visitor said the River Walk is not what her mayor described.
“Absolutely not,” the visitor said, who is in San Antonio for a high school reunion. “Buffalo Bayou is a bayou. There’s nothing on the bayou.”
Taqetta Jemison, of Maryland, said, “I took so many pictures of the birds, the ducks ... it’s beautiful to me.”
A first-time visitor to San Antonio, Rose Fearon of Ohio, almost seemed offended by the Houston mayor’s description.
“Oh, my god!” Fearon said. “This is the most beautiful place we've seen. I mean, we're awestruck. I wish we could pack it all up and take it back to Ohio."
Fearon said she posted photos and messages on her Facebook page urging her friends to come see San Antonio’s Riverwalk.
