SAN ANTONIO -

Gas prices in San Antonio are dropping.

According to AAA's Daily Fuel Gauge report, a gallon of regular unleaded averaged $3.40 in the Alamo City on Thursday, down four cents compared to a week earlier.

The average statewide was $3.44, down five cents from last week. The national average was also down five cents at $3.62 per gallon.

“Motorists are paying less to fill up these days, and we’re hopeful that will continue for the summer travel season,” AAA Texas/New Mexico Representative Doug Shupe said.

The decline in gas prices has come as global crude oil prices decrease in response to economic concerns overseas and a strengthening U.S. dollar.

Although the national average for unleaded has fallen, this same relief at the pump has not been felt in states west of the Rocky Mountains where tight gas supplies and refinery issues have actually increased prices.
