SA residents urged to protect pets during cold snap
Bring animals inside if possible, provide nutritional food, water
With San Antonio’s temperatures expected to dip below freezing on Tuesday morning, pet owners are reminded to take precautions.
The best option for outside animals is to bring them inside, said Vincent Medley, with Animal Care Services.
“If you put them inside your garage, make sure that they can’t get to anything that will harm them,” Medley said.
That means keeping things such as gas and insecticides out of reach.
If you keep them outside, provide a shelter from the elements.
“Make sure that they have a doghouse that has three sides and is large enough to allow them to rotate 360 degrees in,” he said.
Provide dog food, not table scraps, he said.
And check water bowls periodically to make sure they have not frozen over.
