SAN ANTONIO -

More than 600 4th-graders from all over San Antonio enjoyed a taste of country life at Ag in the City, an annual program put on by an assortment of organizations and schools that tries to introduce children to a different agrarian lifestyle.

The agricultural fair was specially designed for their grade level, and featured everything from bees to horses to snakes.

The children learned hands-on an assortment of farm tasks, such as shearing sheep, milking goats, and making homemade ice cream.

They were also introduced to some unusual exhibits, such as taxidermy, veterinary medicine and animal branding.

Texas A&M University representatives, as well as Palo Alto College and Burbank High School agriculture students, participated, showing the children real-world experiences that will not only supplement what they learn in science class, but is hoped will encourage them to pursue these unique careers.
