SAISD mourns bus driver killed in Monday crash
Dolores Martinez, 63, killed in crash on Monday
The San Antonio Independent School District community is coming together after losing one of their bus drivers.
Dolores Martinez, 63, was killed in a crash on Monday, while she was behind the wheel of an SAISD bus.
Bob Sirois, with SAISD transportation, said Martinez has been a driver with the district for 12 years.
On Thursday, her fellow bus drivers tied yellow and black ribbons to their buses in honor of Martinez.
Sirois said the yellow ribbon symbolizes school and school service as well as the color of the buses.
As far as the black ribbon, Sirois said it symbolizes the black trim of the bus as well as the loss they suffered this week.
"We had some of the drivers who wanted to put ribbons on the buses to symbolize how they felt about her and the dedication that she exhibited to all the children," said Sirois.
Sirois said a number of her fellow drivers will also be at the memorial service on Thursday night at the Delgado funeral home.
