SAN ANTONIO -

The San Antonio Independent School district has withdrawn its request to rezone historic Alamo Stadium.

The district stated the withdrawal is in response to a letter from the city outlining what SAISD could do with the facility.

The city notified SAISD the district could move forward with planned renovations to the stadium without obtaining a zoning change.

The city's letter also stated that under the current zoning, the district will operate the facility for education and athletic purposes and not for professional sports use.

Earlier this week, the SAISD Board of Trustees announced use of the stadium for professional soccer should be taken off the table. The stadium's field is still expected to be expanded to a professional size.
