SAPD: Man accidentally shoots self with shotgun
Officers responding to home for other matter hear shot inside
A Northwest San Antonio man was critically injured after he accidentally shot himself with a shotgun.
San Antonio police investigators said the accidental shooting happened just before 1 p.m. on Thursday in the 9800 block of Mill River Square.
Officers were already at the home when the shooting happened after having been called there to deal with a resident that was having a mental health crisis.
As officers were dealing with that person outside, they heard a gun shot come from inside the home.
Investigators said another resident who lives in the home was putting away a loaded shotgun and it accidentally discharged, seriously injuring the man.
"My understanding is he was taken from the location in critical condition and his arm is injured as a result of the shot, but I believe it's going to be non-life-threatening," said San Antonio police Sgt. Javier Salazar.
Police say based on what happened, they don't expect any charges will be filed because the shooting was just an accident.
