SAPD: Man arrested after fleeing officers
Streets closed, schools temporarily put on lockdown
The search for a man who police said shot himself in the foot while trying to get away from police is now over.
That man was found in a vacant house around 6:30 p.m. near the 200 block of West Fest near Nogalitos downtown.
That's where an officer tried to stop the man a few hours earlier.
"(The officer) saw the shotgun being pulled out of (the man's) pants," said San Antonio police spokeswoman Sandy Gutierrez. "(The officer) thought he heard something, saw a puff of smoke and he believed at that time that (the man) had shot himself in the foot -- and that's how it was described to officials. At this time, we found he did not sustain an injury to his foot."
The man was checked out by paramedics but did not go to the hospital.
Police aren't sure what charges he'll face.
Officers are looking for a man who was with him and the weapon the injured man may have been carrying.
