A Northwest Side man is facing a charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child after San Antonio police said he told on himself.

An arrest affidavit stated Fredys Varela, 30, went to detectives in tears Wednesday, telling them he had been molesting an 8-year-old boy since last May.

Detectives said they later questioned the boy and he confirmed Varela’s claims.

According to the affidavit, Varela also told them he had been molested himself when he was a child and no one did anything to help him.

He said in the affidavit those who knew about his case teased him.

The affidavit stated Varela told police he came forward because he was afraid.

He told them he began to suspect that he was not the first person to molest the boy, the affidavit stated.
