SAPD: Some crime down on East Side
Residents on the East side are taking a close look at the crime rate in their area.
On Wednesday, the San Antonio Police Department's East side substation hosted a meeting to keep neighbors up to speed on what has been going on in their neighborhoods.
Capt. Rey Castillo told residents some crime like assault, robbery and capital murder is down from last year.
"It may have something to do with the units we brought here," said Castillo. "We've also made some key arrests in regards to the murders and the shootings that happened last year and I think that had an impact as well."
The numbers released Wednesday, show from Jan. 1 to Feb. 7, aggravated assaults went down from 20 in 2011 to 15 in 2012.
Incidents of robbery went down 42 to 25 this year and there have been no murders on the East Side so far, this year.
However, the numbers are little comfort to Charles English, who's brother was murdered in December of last year.
"We still hear the gun shots," said English. "And, we do call and just like we call the 311, we don't get the response."
While some of the violent crime numbers are down, Castillo announced that incidents of burglary on the East Side are slightly up from last year.
