SAWS crews worked through Wednesday morning to clean a large sewage spill in Huebner Creek near Bandera Road.

The agency believes debris from a nearby construction site got into the sewer main, causing it to back up, resulting in more than 100,000 gallons of sewage overflowing.

Crews put dams around the spill and began pumping the sewage out of the creek and back into the collections system at noon Tuesday.

The cleanup should be done by Wednesday, but crews will then have to repair the sewer main.

SAWS officials said the spill is not expected to impact fish or wildlife.
